Delivering Your Catalog for Copyright Protection: Should I Opt In or Out?

Delivering your catalog to Audible Magic and SoundCloud Copyright Protection (separate from SoundCloud Monetization) has its pros and cons. It's important to understand the various scenarios and reasons why you should or should not deliver to these DSPs.

Sending your release to Audible Magic will essentially create an audio fingerprint of the tracks delivered and automatically block any unauthorized use or uploads of your music by third parties on various platforms including, but not limited to:

  • Facebook

  • Instagram

  • SoundCloud

  • Twitch

  • Vimeo

  • Dailymotion

  • Tumblr

  • Roblox

If you find your catalog often used without permission on these platforms, delivering to Audible Magic can be very effective in preventing unauthorized use or uploads. The caveat to this is that even if your own artist uploads their own song, released on your label (and you have delivered music to Audible Magic), you will need to be sure to whitelist that track with us and Audible Magic and/or SoundCloud. Failure to whitelist a track can lead to a strike or takedown on SoundCloud or other platforms, which can throw a wrench in a release's rollout. This is why some labels prefer to not deliver here at all to avoid the extra step of whitelisting, especially if they are fine with unauthorized use for exposure or promotional purposes - this is entirely up to you as a label manager based on your label's preferred strategy.

The same concepts apply when delivering to SoundCloud Copyright Protection, however a block policy would only be applied to SoundCloud and not all other platforms listed above.
